title: web design

Say it with the <title> Tag

When writing a book or an article, the title is the most important part, this is especially true for a web page. The page title tells the search engines and surfers what your page is about and what they can expect to find on the page. Howeve,r beginners and novice designers may think that the first heading on their page is actually the title.
What is the title of a web page?
Technically, the title is the text contained in the <title> tag of every web page and is found in the <head> of the document. In most cases, the reason that the title is ignored is because it is not an obvious part of the page. This is a crucial mistake as the title is displayed in two places on the browser: the title bar of the web browser and in the bookmarks & favorites - this is what your audience see when they bookmark your site.
How important is the title?
The title of a web page is what many (if not all) search engines use as an index to classify your web site. In layman terms, if your title does not precisely describe your web page, then your site is not going to be indexed well in search engines. So take the extra 2 minutes and properly describe your website with the correct title. For some quick references to html tags, click here.
